As part of our study of Romans we had a study day in which we looked at the final few chapters of Romans…

I prepared the study for the end of Romans 15 [show]<div class="esv"><h2>Romans 15 <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.esvapi.org/assets/play.swf?myUrl=hw%2F45015001-45015033" width="40" height="12" class="audio"><param name="movie" value="http://www.esvapi.org/assets/play.swf?myUrl=hw%2F45015001-45015033" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /></object></h2> <div class="esv-text"><h3 id="p45015001.01-1">The Example of Christ</h3> <p id="p45015001.05-1"><span class="chapter-num" id="v45015001-1">15:1&nbsp;</span>We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. <span class="verse-num" id="v45015002-1">2&nbsp;</span>Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. <span class="verse-num" id="v45015003-1">3&nbsp;</span>For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, &#8220;The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.&#8221; <span class="verse-num" id="v45015004-1">4&nbsp;</span>For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. <span class="verse-num" id="v45015005-1">5&nbsp;</span>May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, <span class="verse-num" id="v45015006-1">6&nbsp;</span>that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. <span class="verse-num" id="v45015007-1">7&nbsp;</span>Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.</p> <h3 id="p45015008.01-1">Christ the Hope of Jews and Gentiles</h3> <p id="p45015008.08-1"><span class="verse-num" id="v45015008-1">8&nbsp;</span>For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, <span class="verse-num" id="v45015009-1">9&nbsp;</span>and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. Romans in a Week - NT Wright

As many of you will know I am a big fan of the writting of NT Wright (Tom Wright) (see link in the Theology section for more on Tom). And as we are currently studying the book of Romans in cell I thought this might be relevant to some of you…

Regent Bookstore (associated with Regent Collge in Vancouver) have a lot of lectures and seminars available to buy on CD. However they also run an online Radio show which can be found here:

Regent Radio :: Audio by Eugene Peterson, Gordon Fee, N.T. Wright and many more…

At the moment they are showing Wrights - Romans in a Week lecture series…

The first 5 lectures are also available for download from Christian Counter Culture

They are great talks, they draw out lots of the links between the OT and Romans and pick up on lots of the connections within the book itself.
Some of the talks are a little technical, but I think anyone should be able to follow most of it… Just do what I do, ignore the bits that are in _greek_…

If you miss any of them and fancy a listen let me know and I can let you borrow a copy…

Romans Study Series

As some of you may be aware our cell group are just begining a series studying the book of Romans.

Over the next 20 odd weeks we will be exploring the issues of what Paul has to say to the Church in Rome, and what that might mean for us today.

My intention is is to try and post a summary of all the things discussed and issues raised each week. Also I will try and make seperate posts about questions that have been raised that we haven’t answered yet…

Feel free to respond to anything I write and or comment upon the the ideas presented. If you disagree with my interpretation, then say why!
